The project envisages the use of Remote Sensing Technology and Geographical Information System (GIS) for the generation of reliable and timely information on natural resources, to identify the problems and potentials of the district for the generation of a integrated district development plan
The present study aims in the preparation of different thematic layers on land resources using satellite images, aerial photographs, colour infra red photos and toposheets. On the basis of these thematic layers, the problems ands potentials of the area is to be identified. Later a resource based land use plan for sustainable development can be generated.

  • The scale of study is 1:50,000 and the database used for the study are the following.

  • FCC of LISS III (IRS-IC) in 1: 50,000 scale

  • SOI toposheets in 1:50,000 scale

  • Aerial photographs & CIR in 1:15,000 scale

  • Panchromatic data in 1:12,500 scale

  • Ground data

  • Land use

  • Soil

  • Hydrogeomorphology

  • Slope

  • Administrative

  • Transport network

  • Drainage and watershed

  • Settlement

  • The project was undertaken for the Town Planning Department
