Panchayat Resource Mapping (PRM) programme |

Panchayat Resource Mapping Programme (PRM) provides the basic details in spatial format for the development activities of the local bodies. The mapping programme is done in cadastral scale, which is first of its kind in the country. This is essentially a participatory programme which involves the mapping of assets, land use and water resources of individual survey plots by trained volunteers on cadastral scale. The Panchayat Resource Mapping is completed in the districts of Kollam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Ernakulam, Kannur, Wayanad and Kozhikkode districts and is progressing in the remaining districts. 892 local bodies has been covered under the programme. |

The objectives of the project are to prepare up to date spatial and non-spatial data sets on natural resources from multi temopral satellite imagery, creation of cadastral level resources information system for sustainable watershed development, to integrate spatial and non-spatial data using GIS to form a relational data base and to suggest land and water resources development action plan to facilitate the need base effective management of resources at local level. |

Land Hazard zonation at micro level for disaster management through Remote sensing and GIS - A perspective plan for Thodupuzha Block, Idukki district, Kerala State |

The objectives of the project are to prepare a land hazard zonation map of the study area through the study of the different parameters like slope, soil thickness, relative relief, land use pattern, drainage and geological parameters using satellite remote sensing, to delineate the different critical and as well as unstable areas in the district in terms of land hazard risks and to devise strategies for developing localized action programmes for disaster management at Grama Panchayat level in GIS environment. |

Improving land utilisation based on agro ecological zonation in Kerala |

The objectives of the project are to generate primary (spatial) and secondary data sets on land resources from multi temporal satellite images and field surveys, to study the land utilization pattern in each agro-ecological zones under each district of the study area, to improve the utilization of the natural resources for increasing the production potential of crops, to recommend suitable crops to be cultivated in the areas under irrigation and to suggest sustainable land use pattern for each agro ecological zones. |

Awareness/Seminars |

The Kerala State Land Use Board in collaboration with the National Land Use and Conservation Board, Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India celebrate a national resources conservation week each year during Nov 14-20. Various competitions are organized every year to create awareness among the people. Natural resources conservation Awards are given to best Municipalities and Panchayats for their activities in the conservation of the natural resources. Three Regional Seminars are organized every year. |
