Panchayat Resource Mapping Programme (PRM) provides the basic details
in spatial format for the development activities of the panchayat. The
mapping programme is done in 1:5,000 cadaestral scale, which is first
of its kind in the country. The present land use, all infrastructure
and assets, all water resources and areas of specific interest in the
panchayat are spatially mapped under this programme. The output serves
as a base for planning the development activities of the departments
like Planning, Agriculture, Soil Survey, Soil Conservation,
Irrigation, Ground water, Public Works, Rural Development,
etc. It also serves as the base layer for further Geographic
Information System Analysis.
To
collect the spatial information through people’s participation on the
basic natural resources which are needed to prepare a long term
perspective Sustainable Development Plan for the panchayat.
The micro level data on the following aspects are collected in this
programme

The
output is scientific and in standard scale (cadaestral scale of
1:5,000).

Provides information for resource based and spatial planning at local

to understand and utilize by common man for planning and development

Possibilities and limitations of resources.

Evolution of local resource literate team for subsequent and future
planning and development of the panchayat.

for other master development plans of the panchayat.
The
programme is already completed in Kollam, Thrissur and Palakkad
districts and is on-going in Ernakulam district. In the remaining
districts the programme is implemented through the selected Non
Governmental Organisations under the technical guidance of KSLUB.
